Disability Insurance Pregnancy
What is Covered by Disability Insurance? Pregnancy and More!
Disability insurance is not just useful for someone who has been in some sort of accident and cannot work anymore for an extended period of time. It also applies to almost any situation in which the policyholder is unable to continue working for any period of time – including pregnancy. While being pregnant may not really fall under the header of ‘being disabled’, there are certain limitations to what a woman can do in the last few months of her pregnancy. Especially in the cases of single mothers for whatever reason, disability insurance can help to cover those few months before and after the baby’s birth.
Short Term Disability Insurance is Usually the Answer
What is length of this kind of disability insurance? Pregnancy as a reason for disability insurance will often fall under the short-term clause. This means that the insurance will continue to pay out a percentage of your income for a set period up to a maximum amount of days. Afterwards, a long-term policy will need to be acquired but in the case of a pregnancy this is rarely the case.
