Ca Disability Insurance

When it comes to a Ca disability insurance plan, always first and foremost make sure you understand the policy from start to finish. Read it over as many times as you need to in order to understand it fully. Ca disability insurance can be wordy and confusing so make sure you know what it is all about. Take the time to note if your Ca disability insurance policy carries with it any “pre-existing conditions” (in other words special health conditions that were in place before the policy took effect). Pre-existing conditions can affect your eligibility for Ca disability insurance.

A Ca disability insurance policy sometimes can have a clause included in it that states that the insurance company “has a right to refuse or that there can be non-compliance with recommended protocols.” Sometimes a Ca disability plan will state that in order for a person to be qualified for it, he or she must be unable to perform any type of work at all, and not just some kinds of work. There are on occasion other conditions that can make a person eligible or ineligible for a Ca disability policy.

Both group Ca disability insurance policies as well as individual Ca disability insurance policies are good but sometimes questions will arise. In the case of your group policy speak to a person in the Human Resources Department of your workplace or else speak to a union representative if your company has one. When it comes to an individual policy, speak to a broker or the insurance agent who sold you the policy for answers to your questions.

When it comes time to apply for disability benefits, always provide up to date, accurate information that is needed by your insurance company. Be as thorough as possible and consistency is also important as well. Always keep copies of everything you submit for yourself to refer back to at a later date if it is necessary to do so.

There are other things that are essential to keep in mind about disability benefits as well. Take the time to learn about them. First of all disability benefits that come by way of an individual policy are not in any way subject to taxes and the majority of insurance policies mandate that a person in receipt of disability benefits be monitored on a regular basis by a doctor. Benefits that come by way of a group plan are taxable in some cases but not in others. If your monthly premiums are paid by your workplace then it is not taxable at all whereas if the premiums are only partially paid by your boss or employer then it is most definitely taxable. The majority of plans are designed in a way that makes then non-taxable.

It is a good idea to keep a book chronicling your health and physical process when you are receiving disability benefits. Include in this book all of your symptoms and your day-to-day activity level. It cannot be stressed often enough, keep printed copies of everything. For example keep your correspondence from doctors and specialists, and keep all results of all laboratory tests and any other documents that might be of interest to the insurance company at any time in the future.
