Disability Insurance Information

Who really needs disability insurance information when you have the federal government on your side? (No laughing back there!) It's true, when you become injured or gravely ill and have to miss work for long periods of time, the Social Security administration can provide help. You may become temporarily injured or you may suffer from a medical condition that gradually gets worse and worse, until you are permanently disabled. When this happens the first course of action is usually to contact the Social Security office and file a claim for disability benefits. Then the wait begins.

How Social Security Works

After a great deal of waiting for your disability insurance information, you may decide to call the office and see how far along they are in the process. The evaluation process, Social Security claims, could take anywhere from 90-120 days. So you wait again, a few more months. Finally, you get a letter. Surprise! You're out of work and you've waited all these months for a denial on your claim. You're told that you can appeal the decision and so you wait again. Meanwhile, you borrow money from friends, family and bet on a few horses to make ends meet.

Months later, you receive another letter—which upholds the original denial. Not that they're adding insult to injury, but they do tell you you can appeal the decision again if you'd like. This time, however, it may involve a hearing before an administrative judge. You request a hearing and wait...again. And now the major wait begins, because a request for a hearing could take a year or more to process. After your hearing is heard, it could take another few months before a judge renders a decision. If by some chance he approves the appeal, it could take another couple of months to go through. Totaled up, the entire process could easily take over two years to complete.

Disability Insurance Information You Need To Know!

Unfortunately, many people don't realize how long and tedious a wait it is to receive any benefits from Social Security. Then they are left with no steady income while the process begins. How about workers compensation or longterm group coverage? While these are not as complex as Social Security benefits, these are still hard to come by due to many technicalities. Workers compensation only applies to people injured on the job, and longterm disability usually won't cover an injury that extends beyond a given time frame.

This doesn't mean that you have to give up chasing after Social Security. But why take the risk of carrying no disability insurance information at all? Individual disability income can provide you with peace of mind and financial protection—when all the other plans fail. Up to 60% of your monthly gross can be replaced, tax free, with a good insurance policy. The best part about an individual plan is the flexibility it offers the insured. Some insurance companies can customize a plan for you, so that you can meet your budget should a disability situation arise.

Don't hold your breath waiting for social security benefits when there's plenty of disability insurance information that can help you without a year long wait. Don't go through life without a plan—start looking into disability insurance information today.
